flow

i have a newbie question, possibly extremely stupid, quesiton about flow.
why do corals like flow? if they get fed directly, do they still want flow? does it benefit them in any way?
was just wondering why they need flow if they get food either way.

It stimulates the ocean better, and gets them fresh water to work with. If the water was stagnant, then they might use up all the trace elements or some kind of element in a small area, and would have no way to replenish itself with necessary substances. Im kind of curious to know why SPS corals like so much more flow than most other corals?

Corals require the flow for reasons of obtaining food from the current (filtering) and also for cleanliness, they are unable to remove detritus etc from themseleves and rely on flow to keep them clean.
