Shoot for around 40-60x turnover rate. The key is for it to be random.

random flow instead of laminar flow is much prefered by SPS. wave makers, pulse devices and such can assist. I have even seen a setup with standard timers used to turn pumps on and off throughout the day to change flow patterns in the tank over the course of the day.
