I'd like some info on keeping one happy. I just got him and he seems to like strong current but what else?
Keep the reef,

I recommend you slow down and research livestock before purchase.
Condeming animals to death due to ignorance of the species is too common amoung new reef keepers, IMHO. Shame on your LFS too. :(

Interesting post as today I bought my 3rd flower pot for my reef. The first 2 have done so well and this one I saw at my lfs was huge and just begged me to take it to my tank. What I have read tho does tend to agree that they require a lot more then most can give them. Interestingly I moved my 2nd one from its spot in a corner to another spot directly under a powerhead so that the new one could have the whole corner. I found tonight that the 2nd one was more extended now then before when it was somewhat out of the current. I am not a reef expert as out of my tanks I only have the one 58 set up full reef (for a year this month) but so far I have lost only a Kenya Tree which my Cowrie snail munched on and killed. They are beautiful when fixed up but oh boy are they costly to fix up at the start.

Thanks Sammy, and I'm sorry to hear about your luck. I am grateful for the info. Puffer, I hope I have the same expirence as you. Burn you must realize that the flower pot was not sitting in a $10,000 reef set up and "condeming to death" is a little strong. FYI I'm not a new reefer either I simply feel up to the task. I have general knowledge of most species and I knew I had sufficent light. I was merely posting to get some scoop from a few people that have kept or tried to keep them. This way I could try placment and suppliment options. It is through the shareing of such expierence and knowledge that we further our understanding of the art of reefing. Thanks but the next time I feel I need a slap on the knuckles with a ruler I'll curse loudly in front of a nun :p
Keep the reef,

Sorry Raistlin, I just expect someone with some background to find out what is needed to care for a coral before purchasing, my bad.
It is the opinion of many reef keepers that Goniporas should not be sold until their exact requirements are known. What is known for sure is that almost everyone of them will die in 1-2 years, which is less than the expected life span.

I have had my flower pot for about 6 months now and it has been doing great! It is placed about midway down in my tank with a medium amount of current under one of the halides.
Good luck with yours!

The problem with Goni's is that they (as said earlier) need rich water. That translates into higher Nitrates. The latest things I've read say that they need .10-.20 readings to be happy. My two are doing well in .10 Nitrate. So are all my other corals.
Burn is right....a little research goes a long way.
