Fluval 304 help

i HAVE A FLUVAL 304 RUNNING ON MY 55 AND WHEN EVER I SHUT IT OFF TO CLEAN IT THEN TURN IT BACK ON A BUNCH OF STUFF GOES IN TO THE TANK. IT CLEARS UP IN ABOUT A HOUR. IS IT SAFE AND DO I NEED TO CLEAN MY HOSES OUT?

It's just blowing out a little ditrus that you missed. Could be in the motor or tubes.
You might not be cleaning it well enough or often enough. Set up a 5 gal bucket and restart your fluvel in that first after cleaning it. Yes things will start to collect in the tubes if you let it. Get some plastic coated wire, tie your wire around your apropriate bristle tube cleaner and thread the fluval tube, draw it through, rinse. It's like cleaning a gun.
BTW loop the wire so you don't poke a whole in anything.

I had the same problem. It is definitely your hoses. You need to disconnect them and bring them to your bathtup or outside and fill them with water until it comes out the other side and then pick up the hose and shake it vigoursly. Wait till you see the crap that comes out! Do this a few times when changing your media and when you reconnect everything it should be fine.
