u probably already knew this but make sure u change all the media before you start to use it..........and definatly replace the sponges..........I clean my fluval about one a month and it never makes any problems for me in regards to increasing nitates............i have the fx5 on my 125g

I have a fluval 404 and a riena xp3 i prefer the riena over the fluval but the customer services for the fluval is outstanding also keep your ruber seal around the lid lubed with vegetable oil so it wont dry out, it will develop microscopic cracks that will allow air into your pump causing it to malfunction.

I have the 304 and I love the darn thing. That is my primary filter and It keeps my water pristine, I have a Aquaclear 110 that I run every once in awhile, but I use it mostly to get some water movement going. Like everyone else says, just make sure you clean it out once in awhile. I usually flush mine when I do water changes every other week...
