Foam in tank

Hey, my tank is starting to get this foam on the top of the water. What is causing that, is it bad, and how do I stop it

Normally caused by Dissolved Organic Compounds = DOC's. Time for a water change.

Don't have a protein skimmer, what does it do, and how does it work.

I don't think you can have one on an eclipse, but since I've never had an eclipse I'm not sure. Isn't that an enclosed system? Im sticking to the water change idea.
