Foam on surface

Hey, I need to know if this is normal....I know you need all of my info to help, so here it is:
3 days ago I got a used 44 gallon pentagon tank. I first put in 60 lbs of sugarsized aragomite sand. I then filled it with regular tap water and added a dechlorinator(I have tested the water b4 and it's ok to start my tank with--after initial setup I always use RO/DI water). I then added salt and stirred it very briskly(again I don't mix the salt in the water except on initial setup). I immediately started a small HOB filter with no media and a powerhead to mix the water. After 2 days I turned the powerhead and filter off to help the sand settle faster. I have not started a heater or my lights yet so the water is somewhat cold.
I said all of this now to ask one question. I don't know how long it's been there b/c I didn't pay attention until today, but on the surface and the sides of the tank where the water has evaporated, there is a very thick foam. I am worried that something might have gotten in the water somehow(although I'm not sure how b/c I was very careful). My salinity is at 1.022 and the foam doesn't have any smell to it. Should I be worried or is this foam normal?
Sorry for the long post and thanks for your help!

It could be as simple as residue from whatever you cleaned the tank with.I would try to skim it out with a coffee cup,and continue with the setup...

i would guess its from mixing the salt in the tank and mixing up your sand with it. i have cleaned sand before and when you stir it and mix it you get that foam on the top.

Salty makes a good point did you clean the tank with anything befor setting it up. The foam might be form that, or it could be from mixing the salt in the tank. I just set up a tank with only l/r in it and when I put the l/r in after the tank had been running for a couple days there was some foam in the back of the tank. I would try to get as much out as you can and let the tank settle for a couple days before putting any fish in it. Good Luck

Hey, I didn't clean the tank w/ anything but water. I think it may just be from stirring the salt b/c I skimmed it off the top and it's not reforming. It wasn't like soap suds though...It was a lot thicker than soap foam.
Thanks for your help...I will be very paranoid until I have some livestock in the tank for awhile so thanks for your reassurances :)

This foam is no big deal and most likely came from the sand. I have been slowly adding sand to my tank over the last few months and when I don't rinse the sand I get the foam. The last two batches I added were OOlitic which is about the same thing as sugar sized. The foam ring went away in about a week. No harm done. All levels normal.
