It is normal for the skimmer to go through a " break in " period where you get no foam. When it gets all the nastys coating the inside of the reaction chamber it will then produce foam...if set right. You may have too much air going to it if you are getting "lots of air bubbles in the tank". This will drop the water/foam level in the chamber too low and cause no production. I tried a Seaclone skimmer years ago and had no luck. I used it for 2 weeks, on a seasoned tank, with no production. I then promtply returned it to the LFS. They weren't hpappy about it, but I'm not there to make pals.... ;)

At the time I traded the Seaclone in on a Big Mombasa (great skimmer for smaller applications), it was then replaced witha Berlin Classic (*before the Turbo*), and the Mombasa was moved to a 55gal. Since I have removed the skimmer all together, and went to a 30gal RDP Refugium (homemade). I hope you have better luck with the Seaclone than I did though. Most of the time it takes 1 to 2 weeks to get a skimmer "broken in", but if the setup is fairly new it may take up to a month...Too late to take it back by then!! ;)

It will start out as white foam, until it picks up the organic compounds you want it to remove, Just be patient. Oh, and by the way, it took my Berlin 3 to 4 days to start removing anything!! I guess it's not any good either...lol ;)

Ideally, it should generate a bit of skimmate every day (1/2 cup to a cup a day) from your tank.

1/2 a cup to a cup? Sounds like your overfeeding...lol Mine skims a gallon a month with 0 Amonia, 0 Nitrite , and 0 Nitrate. With a CC substrate!!
