Adding lr speeds the cycle. If you have fish add it a little at a time and make sure it's cured and fresh(not smelly). I added 3-20lb increments each week with only a small spike each time. Very little die-off and my skimmer helped keep everything clean.

agree w/ the above; assuming you do not have your tank fully stocked now, you should add most of your LR now while your tank is still cycling; then if you needed to add more LR later, you could add up to maybe 5-8 lbs at a time depending on filtration & skimming

Will adding the live rock now not kill it as the ammonia spikes? I'd really hate to invest $100+ in LR only to have it killed during cycling, but on the other side I want to get it in as soon as possible to get it established before I start with livestock and inverts. Thanks everyone :)

Live rock grows back after cycle. That's why some people buy it uncured for cheaper prices. I ordered lr in increments because after my first shipment I was so happy with the life it contained I got hooked. I wish I had a camara to show you my tank. The rock itself is so amazing I had a hard time stacking it because I didn't want to smother any of the creatures. Everything stayed alive(4 fish and inverts during the small cycles). If you have livestock in it now you want to do it in small increments. If not go ahead and buy all of it.

Your LR will not die during cycling... Some of it will , but will rejuvinate soon after your cycle is complete... As for most of the Hitchers they will live through the cycle...

the live rock is part of the biofilter which means if you add it to your tank after the cycle you tank will cycle again anyway. No worries - LR is typically used for cycleing a new tank these days anyway.
that's how I did my tank - 65lbs of LR into the tank and one week later I added some fishes to feed the biofilter.
