It's recommended that frozen food be rinsed before feeding. This reduces the amount of phosphate that gets added to your tank (all food contains some level of phosphate).
I rinse and soak in RO water.

I rinse any food I feed unless I'm feeding Rod's. I don't rinse the Rod's food. I'll put the frozen cube in a little cup that is dedicated to fish food and thaw it. Then I poor the food in a fish net and rinse it with tap water until it's clean.

one trick for rinsing food is get a cheep metal tea ball. I place cube inside the ball and let it melt. Then rinse it right inside the ball and dump it into a used copepod bottle (cleaned and sterilized). now you have a nice squeeze bottle for food. Then again I dont have too many fish right now so two cubes last about 3 days.

Wow...talk about complicating things...take a fine mesh fish net, put the frozen food in it and let the RO water run over it..it takes like 30 seconds to melt....after it's melted take the net to the fish tank put the net in the tank and flow it backwards to release the food, no soaking, no little tea balls, no problems.

It gets worse, I then dump it back in the cup, swish the clingers in the clown tank. Take a turkey baster and fill the cup up with water from the horse tank and then suck it up and squeeze it into the horse feeding station

I use small plastic cups. Add water, the mysis, let it set a few min, dump in a brine shrimo net and rinse under the tap. then dump in the tanks.
Rainbow, you really should rinse your food, that may be why you are having some of your algea problems.

I use Eric Borneman's coral food recipe, calls for fish roe... 4tsp a night feeds 300g. So, you can imagine that it lasts quite a while. In a 20g tank it equates to about 7ml +- per day. I gotta experiment with it in such a small tank, and do some more math. It's impossible to wash under tap - or else you'de be getting rid of all the good stuff.
If you do feed mysis, brine, or other enriched frozen foods, do wash it under the tap. The excess liquids can cause phosphate problems. I feed my fish a variety of flake - always have, and have never had any complaints. lol!
