How much do you vary what you feed your reef? I made a batch of homemade food using Beth's recipe. It included dover sole, red snapper, shrimp, clams, mussels (all the seafood was raw, probably won't attempt to open raw shellfish again. what a pain!), 3 cloves of garlic, 2 nori sheets, 10 spirulina capsules (emptied the algae out of the capsules and discarded), a handful of blanched spinach, and 2 medium-sized blanched broccoli florets. This was all pureed until mushy but not liquified, scored and frozen. I feed this to our reef every day. Once a week or so, I feed just mysis or krill. Algae sheets are supplemented 2x/week for the turbo and astrea snails plus I dose phytoplankton once a week for the feather duster (a small bit in a pippette, gently and slowly released behind his head). We have 2 cleaner shrimps, 2 maroon clownfishes, rusty angelfish, 2 blue-green chromis, a feather duster, frogspawn and bta. Is this enough of a variety of food for our tank? Would making a few different batches of homemade food be a good idea? Should flake or other frozen cube food be mixed in? My boyfriend - who had a 55g reef when I met him and at first taught me everything I know and now, with this board's help, I am teaching him, thinks that our homemade food isn't enough of a variety. What do you feed and how do you vary it up?
