hey all! I'm new here, getting ready for my first saltwater experience!! Question, i saw on the internet, a recipe for homemade fish food for saltwater fish. Does anyone make their own food? care to share recipes? thanks -angelofdeath132 <img src="graemlins//confused.gif" border="0" alt="[confused]" />

Hi, I make my own fish food. I prefer these: mussels, squids, shrimps, silversides, nori (the ones used for sushi, you can buy them at oriental stores),spinach (you can add any veggie), a small chip of fresh garlic, a few drops of multivitamins. Place all of them in a blender and blend finely. Freeze in small ice trays. Thaw before you feed. I use a small amount of the tank water to thaw the frozen food (just my preference). I turn the powerheads and the skimmer for a few minutes until consumed.

My hippo tang, mimic tang, banded goby, green chromis, and damsel absolutely love the mix. I don't have butterfly (most aren't reef safe) but I am sure it will be irresistible for them as well. I feed them twice a day. Once before I take a shower in the morning then when I get home from work. I guess if I feed them more often none of them will complain. I just don't want to disturb the equilibrium of my tank. :D
