Hey.. I got this bright idea just the other night, and it turned out to work really well.
I have a 12g aqauapod and quite frankly the cooling air circulation SUCKS. So, i heated up a thin flathead screwdriver and removed some 'bars' from above the fan; now SOOO MUCH MORE AIR flows (cooled down my tank by at least two degrees)... You guys should do it, itll chill your tank out some more, just be careful not to melt too much stuff!! Here's before and after pic:

you can see the actual fan after taking out those 'lower' bars... And you can definitely feel the difference in airflow; also, to me personally, it sounds quieter now that there's less air turbulance and more clearance for airflow.

yea that's the temp mine usually maintains... it went down to 81...80 now that the bars are broken off...
and i checked the radioshack around here, they don't have a 60mm fan, only 40 and the typical 80

give me your email ill send you a link to one , so far the best deal i see is a 4500rpm fan for $4.87 free shipping.. Thats faster then most fans, the majority of them are only 3000 rpm.
I think im gonna buy 2 of them also since my fans are only 3300 rpm.

yea thanks buddy! i didnt buy the one you showed me, because i feared the noise level, but i did buy one from the same seller, some fan by the name of 'delta' or w/e. the amperage is 0.15 amps, so its still strong but should be quiet! let me know where you find your screws from to install your fan, because now i have to hunt around for some appropriate screws....
