For those considering LED lighting.

I agree with the people who claimed thier zoos are small.
Under the current cheapo 300$ LED I experimented with 2 months now, my zoos flourish, but the heads are smaller when under the direct light. In the shade out of the way of the beam they are noticeably larger. Almost double. All my zoo colonies save one have doubled in size in the last 8 weeks. There is one exception however. One of them however has almost completely died off. It was flourishing at an amazing rate(4 heads to 15 in 30 days). Then all the sudden it wiped it self out. I suspect an infection of some kind, but I haven't researched it yet.
I'm only mildly concerned since it was an isolated incident involving some zoos I didnt really like anyways, so I pretty much got my wish. Maybe they got some of my negative energy :)
From the reading Ive heard, the majority of corals seem to do pretty good under LED's, infact I havent seen anyone claim they are bad for growth. Ive only seen satisfactory to amazing growth.
However I haven't seen anything regarding long term coloration of corals. But Im convinced they are worth it.
Last week I got a ricordia, it covered half the plug. Now only one corner of the plug is visible, it looks better at home than it did at the LFS. Ill get you some shots if your interested.

There are some concerns for specific ranges of color patterning that the corals will start to turn brownish. I believe, and hopefully can prove this after a couple experiments, that the different spectrums we are offering with LEDs are causing the SPS corals to brown out, and in fact we need to add some supplimental lighting to the situation.

There is speculation that the browning comes from too much white. Some people are speculating a 50/50 mix of w/b may not be the correct pattern. I plan to rectify this by dimming my white and upping the blue.
From my experience with that cheapo $300 LED array, I myself find it hit and miss with browning sometimes.
An example:
I picked up a package of SPS from a local reefer, one of the peices I got from him was brown, within 2 weeks it was green w/yellow polyps. Fantastic piece! On the other hand I had a beautiful tri-color SPS from him turn completely brown in about a month. I recently removed it from my tank and have it at the LFS under thier MH's until I got my array finished.
Sometimes you get even more bazaar behavior, I had one coral under these LED's lights go from green to brown to almost white(dead), back to brown, and now a far superior green than it originally had off the mother colony I picked it from. My water quality doesn't change, so I have to chock it up to LED's.
I think there is an acclimation period that people will need to feel, since its not a set in stone yet. Personally when my array is done, Ill be doing it at about %30 power the first few weeks(that seems to be what most do) over time I don't see myself going much past 50%.

Another weirdness, I was reading a little more detailed into that thread. Seems theres a guy whos ricordias arent so hot. Mine in fact is just the opposite, I just check in on them 10 min ago, and they are now creeping off the plug on one side. So I am thrilled with my expansion.
I think I might do the next Array with a different mixture of lights. More blue and maybe even some green, and less white. say 60/20/20%
