Ford Motor Co. has sued Ferrari in Detroit federal court, saying the sports car maker has violated its trademark over the pickup truck name F-150.
The suit is based on Ferrari's naming of its new Formula 1 racing car the "F150," and its creation of the website www.ferrarif150.com.
Dearborn-based Ford says in Wednesday's filing that its trademark is being harmed, and the suit asks a judge to block Ferrari from using the trademark in the U.S.
Ford also seeks unspecified damages from Ferrari.
A message seeking comment was left for Ferrari officials at the company's Modena, Italy headquarters through U.S. spokesman Matteo Sardi.
Ferrari's website says the "F150" marks the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy.

I love it, Ford says calling a forumula one race care an f150 that their F-150 trademark is being harmed.

well, when you hear "eff one fifty" you automatically think truck right? Well, what if you saw a red sportscar instead? It makes sense, but I am sure ferrari will get out of it since ford's is F-150 and ferrari's is F150. Minor difference but still a difference.
Ohio university sued Ohio State for naming infringements since both are state funded schools. In the end, Ohio State added the "the" to the front so now its The ohio state university. It makes us buckeyes sound snobbish, but we are respecting the lawsuit results from those lowly bobcats down in southern ohio.

To be fair on Ford's part, the F-150 is the world's best selling vehicle, so it's not like Ferrari wouldn't have thought of that. Just wait till the Chinese start building cars in larger scale. There will be lawsuits every week....
And a fun fact! Ford sells an F-150 every 53 seconds!

Hey I completely agree that is naming infringement. I just misread the article to begin with. And took the intent as confusing a ford with a ferrari would be harmful, like fords don't want to be associated with Ferrari's. Those Ferrari scum. Which was funny to me. I know Ferrari has a good reason for naming it what they are, but F-150 is the most sold vehicle ever or something like that...
Kind of reminds me of these shoes I"ve seen in the department store. They look exactly like a Chuck Taylor. But they're coach. So they're knock off coach shoes? lol

Perhaps their defense will be that they didn't use a dash therefor it cannot be the same.

Nah, I gotcha, it is kinda funny. Like if Bowers & Wilkins or Paradigm came out with a series of "Explode" speakers, and then Sony sues them for infringing in their 'Xplod' series.
F-150 is the most popular vehicle currently sold ever year, though it's second to the Corolla, for most vehicles sold ever. 37million('ish) for the Corolla, 30 million'ish) for the F-150.
