Found a pair of legs

Well I might have had my first fatality. I looked at the tank today and found a pair of legs sitting at the bottom. I haven't seen a couple of the shrimps lately so in the morn I have to stir things up a bit to see if they are all still alive and well. The only suspects I have right now is either the SallyLightFoot or Arrow crab. Do you think these guys would devour a poor little shrimp like that? I know whatever it was was eaten cuz you could tell it was nipped at and not just torn off. They are fresh cuz when I shut the lights off the night before they were not there. I gave the guys in the tank a good talking to so it better not happen again!

If you are sure the legs are not molts and cant find the shrimp the arrow crab is most likely the culprit. They are effective predators.

both arrow crabs and sally light foots are very agressive and opportunistic feeders. more than likely the arrow crab was the suspect, but i wouldnt be the least bit surprised if it was the sally. sorry to hear of your loss. bo

sallies will eat shrimps, other crabs, and small fish. someone here (cant remeber who) had a sally devour a 6 line wrasse. they can be good and reef safe, but they can also be vicious killers. bo

I took the tank apart today and found out I'm missing two not one. My cleaner and camelback shrimp are both gone. I hate to get rid of the arrow since I don't know for sure, but I also don't want any more fatalities.

what other fish and inverts do you have? the shrimp could have died and the cleanup guys got to him before you saw. i wouldnt get rid of either crab until you catch one in the act. bo

I bought the 1's package from here and got it on Tuesday and they were gone on Thursday. It was a real nice package. Real good size shrimp and crabs. Arrow must measure about 6 inchs stretched out. He's huge compared to the ones I seen at the LFS.
