FOWLR and a phosphate/nitrate reactor a good idea?

I have been having some issues with red slime algae and was curious if it would be recommended to get to media reactors, one for phosphate and the other for nitrate. I got a 2in deep sand bed, and half of my 240 gal is stacked full of live rock. A fluval FX5, and 2 wet dry's underneath each with a protein skimmer. I would think I have more than enough of filtration, maybe lacking a bit in the sand depth but I haven't been able to keep my nitrates below 30ppm and it has hit 40ppm. I have been doing partial water changes recently to keep it down.
Anyone have 2 cents on the topic of chemical filtration I'd appreciate it. My sand is a beautiful white fine sand that just isn't looking clean from the red slime algae.

Oh, just in case anyone had a question about stock. If anything it is under stocked as I took my 2 large angels out a few months back, they were getting picked on so I put them back in my 120 gal until I can either trade or sell them locally.
