What is the purpose of fragmenting corals? I have a green star polyp and need to know. Tell me what exactly it does for the coral and the tank.
I read SPEGs post on how to frag which was helpful but im still not sure of the purpose
Thanks

well for osme things, it is to creat two of them. an example is the fraging of a mushroom in half will yeild you two mushrooms. But it is to aslo sell it. Now, you have green star polyps, so you know quite well that they dont need to be fragmented to have more of them
In cases like that, it is to mainly sell or trade. If you wanted to trade or sell SOME of your GSP, but still wanted some, then you can frag some and still have some.

That's exactly right! When I first got my GSP, it was big and I cut a frag off of it. The main mother colony grew even bigger within one month and the frag grew twice it's size already within a month. Everything is growing wild in my tank within one month for some reason, I guess my tank is doing very well. I start them all out as frags. :happyfish
