frag tank idea...

i want to have a mini frag station in my BC 14. Instead of showing the ugly white eggcrate in the DT, could i submerge it right under the sandbed, thus holding the frags in place without seeing the eggcrate. would this work?

hmm sounds like a good idea, I recently took my egg crate out of my 40gal breeder b/c of how it looked and algae was hanging on it. I will watch here for you'r answer, as far as I can see I don't know why it wouldn't work

Good Idea

The egg crate is to hold frags without the use of a substrate or rocks to place them on. Think of it like a shelf with conveniant holes to hold frag plugs. Most frag tanks dont have sand or live rock in them. Sand can irratate newly cut frags. Rocks are ok but you dont want your frags attaching to them if you intend to sell them. Also most frag tanks are only for grow out not display, so you dont care what it looks like as long as it works. Only IMO.

iyachtuxivm is actually right, I guess i should have said my frag tank is not a "normal " frag tank. I have LS , LR and a few fish as well
works for me

if your going to place frags at sand level no reason not to just put them in the sand. having a hidden eggcrate would be a pain in the butt IMO

I agree, why have the egg crate if you are going to put it in the sand? Can the plugs not go directly into the sand? What type of frags are you keeping?
