So i bought this 58 tall fish tank from someone off C-list. and I'm wondering about making a frag tank.
this is what i have so far.
VHO ( old school non T-5 huge bulbs) + 400w Metal halide
Drilled Tank
Stand
20Gal Sump
BioBall Filtration
Refuge and Return Pump.
I also bought ceiling tile grate also known as Egg crate and some pipe to make a stand.
My questions are.
Do I need Live rock in the sump?
should i put in a sand bed?
any other ideas.

My idea is to super grow these frags. I want to be able to direct feed them and turn them into colonys. pump there growth.

What are you trying to grow? Different corals require different methods of growth and fragging...
Yes, I would use live rock at least in the sump but not in a place where it can clog with detritus.
Yes, I would oversize a protein skimmer.
With that huge of a light over a tank like that - your more guaranteed to sunburn your corals then grow them.
Shallow tanks work much better for frag grow out tanks then do tall tanks.
