Frag tank question..

I'm considering setting up a frag tank and I am wondering how do you keep the beneficial bacteria up without live rock and sand? Would it be ok if I had a little live sand and some live rock along with egg crate to place frags on?

sure....you could have the sand and live rock in your sump refuge usually frag tanks are bare bottom to make cleaning easier but however you want to set it up and it works

i set mine up as a complete system. i have a sump with 50 pounds of live rock in it and a refugium, along with a protein skimmer. i keep fish in mine for certain duties(cleaning up algae, adding nutrients...)

I too am setting up a frag system this week and it will be a 65 g main with a 30 gallon sump. Setting it up complete with DSB, LR, carbon filtration, Skimmer, and will eventually put in a clean up crew and a few dither type fishes. Want a place to grow out the corals growing like crazy in my main tank so trading and selling to get my addictive fix for less.
