frag tank questions

Ive been thinking about trying to do a frag tank. I have a 5 gallon tank laying around, so my question is what all do i need? If you dont have any fish in the tank, do you need a skimmer? Can i just use a powerhead and a regular over the top filter? Also what type of lighting do you guys use, ive seen a couple of pictures of these small tanks and it looks like they just went to home depot bought a fixture and put a 50/50 bulb in it? Im really new to this, so sorry if these ideas sound stupid. thanks for the help.

what do you want to frag? 5 gallons isnt really a lot for a frag tank.

if you do decide to do a grag tank, just get a small coralife PC fixture. That tank is so short that it will be enough light to grow pretty much anything. You'll still want some sort of filtration though

The tank is just for fragging mushrooms and polyps, I thought it would be easier to grow corals like these in a smaller aquarium?

use a 65w power compact light. leave it bare bottom and use a hang on filter and do small water changes frequently and you should be good.
