I am pretty sure the answer to this question is NO, but can you use something like a terra cotta saucer, slate, or tile to grow matting corals on.
Like I said I doubt it or everyone would be doing it. but i did buy a peice of GSP that was on a peice of what looked to be shower tile.

thats what i was thinking. the glazed type. thanks alix. It would just seem easier to frag if you could use a tile like that to grow the mat, score the tile, snap the tile then cut the mat.

yep. ive seen it done with zoanthids, because the tiles are so smooth that you can scrape them off & cut them up.

you can use tile, and terra cotta, but I wouldnt reccomend slate jsut because of the chemical/mineral makeup of the rock.

Well thats what i was think would be the problem with all of them the minerals. But if I can use terra cotta. that would be sweet at $0.40 per saucer.

once tera cotta is fired its fairly inert (terra cotta pots are used in aquaculture programs for marine and freshwater fish breeding all the time)

Yeah I use terra cotta in my fresh tanks for cichlid breeding, and slate for angel breeding. Just wasnt sure if either could be used in the salt tank. I just saw greenreefer's new fragging set up. its seems very efficient, cost effective, and a space saver I might try that.

I use broken clam shells. I have a whole bucket the kids picked up. I just boil them first.
I have seen terra cotta used also
