Fragging Montipora Caps

I gave a friend of mine some montipora to hold for me while I was trying to get my tank back together. It has been a year later and the caps have grown to three huge swirling formations. They are about 10 inches hig and about 5 or so inches wide. He wants me to take it back when my lights are in which should be next weekend. I will take back some and plan to give the rest to a LFS for credit. Can I just break it into pieces when taking it out? The LFS guy said I don't have to attach any of it to a rock and that he would handle it.

easiest coral to frag my mag float makes some for me all the time when I hit it. where it would land I would get a new colony

Yup, you can just snap it. I've broken mine a ton of times bumping into it in my tank.

Thanks. That is what I thought. The piece I bought from a guy online sent a small piece that wasn't attached to anything so I figured you could just break it off.
