Fragging Question

Hi, I know there are a lot of threads on fragging. I can't find specific enough directions for zoos. I want to just take a few zoo polyps off a rock and attach it to another. Can someone please tel me how to do this. I don't know where to cut it or if I can just pull it off? Like I said I just want to grab 2 or 3 to attah to a rock. Please respond, I would like to start this soon.

use a butter knife to scrape the side lifting the mat, peel it back a little way untill you get the number of polyps you want, then cut them free with a razor being careful not to cut the polyps. then pat the bottom dry with paper towel pat the rock dry you want to glue to put a couple drops of superglue gel (cyanoacrylate based glue). then place the zoas on the glue let dry for a minute or two then your set. no need to rush they can be out of the water for 20 minutes no prob.
IMPORTANT: wear gloves, and eyeprotection. ceartain zoanthinds and paly thoas have palytoxin, wich is the most toxic naturally occuring substance in the world and can put you in the hospital. no joke.

I've never had to do that yet. Everything that i've fragged as been attached to a little bit of substrate.
Actually the only coral in my aquapod that i didn't frag is my purple gorgonian. I like to do it that way. :happyfish

I frag so much stuff for selling and trading that I usually dont wait for stuff to attach to something else and split it, though it does happen occasionally.

I tried it. We'll see what happens. The zoo I stuck into a hole on another rock is all closed up. It might be dead, we'll see. i didn't use glue I just stuck it in a hole. Its really closed up though. ***)

Cam, Good luck with that. I think that when it opens up it will expand and pop out of the hole. There is no problem super gluing the zoo frag to the rock, just WEAR GLOVES.

Cam: I am inclined to agree with scotts chances are it'll pop out of the hole. it may stay though.

Ha, well you guys hit it right on the nail. I was at work all day and when I got home, the zoos were gone. I looked but no luck.
Also Larry, where did you buy zoo frags? I would be interested in some. If you can't put down the site can you email me one?

yes. you can break the skeleton way below the head usually at a branching intersection. you have to be carefull not to break it too close to the head because the coral extends down inside the skeleton quite a ways. one of the best ways to break them is usually with bonecutters, though you can just grab it and snap it off. you can also use a dremmel or rotozip to cut it.

From what I've read some are and some aren't but you can't tell just by looking which could kill you. It also depends on your tolerance to poisons. I know I where gloves and glasses while fragging but I do move them around with bare hands, most times with no problems but one of my frags causes my hands to break out like eczema and others nothing at all. Haven't figured out which ones yet though.
