Fragging the green polyp toadstool...

or any toadstool for that matter.
The colony was getting big so it was about time I fragged it.
Here's a pic of the mother from about a week ago. It's about 5-6" wide.

Pulled it out of the tank...

I used scissors to cut the perimeter of the disk off, but really any part of the disk can be cut off any which way.

I cut the one long string into 11 pieces and rubberbanded them to individual plugs.

And back into the tank:

In a few days they'll be attached to the plugs and I'll remove the rubberbands. There's really not much to fragging it.

Wow thats really cool that you can just "prune" the coral, and get yourself some nice frags in the process. Have any slimed out?

Not yet. *crossing fingers* I actually just fragged it about an hour ago so time will tell.

thats a nice toadstool. I haven't fragged my yellow one yet but its getting there. I would assume its a good sign that they have some polyp extension allready?

yellow leathers are more prone to death using cut methods like scissors and scalpels. your better off fragging the sarcophyton elegans with constriction cuts, its less traumatizing to the coral.

thats a very good way to frag a toadstool. very easy to replicate. good tip for beginners

the last pic showing the fresh frags on the frag rack. i think thats the mother colony in the bottom right of the pic....looks like it rite?

Hmm I just got a frag of Rhodactis Rhodostoma and can't get it to stay put on a rock. I was told a loose rubberband. Can I do what you did with a frag plug with that and see if it stays that way? I am curious now!
