Frantic Diamond Goby!!

Well, I bought a 4 inch long diamond goby today. I new he was a jumper, but I got a glass cover on my 55. So sure enough, after acclimation I put him in and he shoots right for the top. After crashing into the glass, he goes back to the bottom. Of course, some of the other tankmates try and greet him and he doesn't like that either. (Nothing harmful; cleaner shrimp, flame angel, etc.) Well, I would have thought after awhile he would settle down and enjoy his new home. But I just got off of work (15 hours later). The lights have been off, but he is still bouncing around like a maniac and hitting the glass. He shoots from one side of the tank to another!!
Is he still adjusting? Has anyone else seen this with a new fish?

Do you have live rock and sand? If so how much. The only time I've seen a diamond goby go bananas was at the store I work with where there was no sand for him to dig up and no live rock to hide in.

I have 80 lbs. of LR, and at least 3 in. of LS in a 55g. He is still acting wierd. I haven't seen him eat at all yet either.

IMO, that is very bad advice and not honest.
Hopefully, he will settle down. Like I've said, I've seen one go bananas before, and did fine after a couple days. He should start sifting the sand relitively soon. My diamond goby took about a week to start eating frozen food. However, call the lfs and explain what is going on and that he's been acting weird since you got him. Ask them if he passes if they will give you some credit or something.

Well my first thought would have been to take him back, but I picked him out a day in advance and came back the next day. I watched him act normal and eating both days.
So anyway, today he was acting fine!!! He looked a little shaky, but he was eating and the sand all around looks as if he had been at it for awhile. Thank goodness. I thought I was going to have to name him stupid.
I rarely feed the rest of them frozen food anymore. Will a diamond gody eat spectrum?
Thanks for the help.

I'm sure he'll eat anything that floats to the bottom. I only feed frozen, so that's all I've seen them eat. Hope everything works out good for you! And keep that top on! lol.

Well he still try's to get out at night! Splash... THUNK! In the day all he does is eat, but at night he goes crazy again. My aquarium is totally dark, I don't have any moonlights or anything. Does that have anything to do with it?
He also has moved more sand than I could have ever imagined. He built his house under a rock, and made a HUGE sandpile doing it. I'm still not sure what to do? I always take the lid off to clean, but that's not possible anymore. He would jump for sure.
My longnose jumped the day I got him and I picked him right up. Now he wouldn't even think about it. I'm afraid this goby will never get it.

Dude heel get over it, trust me, my mandarin was freaking out, but hes gotten used to it, i dont like moon lights, mainly because I sleep in the room where my tamnk is.
THe pile of sand get used to it, and digging up ur sand bound corals, get uysed to it

Idk, I have moonlights on my tank...well 8 of them on a 6' tank. And he does just fine at night, I have no top on my tank. He just goes into his hole with his girlfriend/boyfriend our yellow watchman and goes to bed.

Well I'm not all that worried about him, it's just that I sleep in the room with my tank also, and it's anoying! lol I also just worry about when I clean, he might jump. I really don't care that he's moving the sand around, tha'ts why I got him to stir up the sand! I was just saying... Actually I think I figured out why tries to get out at night. My green brittle star stole the first home he made, and my lobster lives in the second one he tried to use. I think hes just exploring at night for a better home. :hilarious
