Freaky Loud Commercials!!!

Did I miss something? Lately my commercials have been freakishly loud. It has made me jump several times. Were advertisers recently allowed to jack up the volume or is this something new my cable company is allowing? Can you call your cable company to complain about something like this. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this. My cable company is Mediacom.

Loud commercials have been a standard for as long as I can remember. It's been a sticking point for TV watchers for years. Some TV manufacturers have actually created TV's that can detect when a commercial comes on, and it automatically turns the volume down. It doesn't work for me because I get the sound for my TV through my surround-sound system. I think someone in Congress tried getting a bill passed to try and get the networks to stop this annoyance, but it never made it out of committee.

I heard a few weeks ago that this was close to be regulated but I don't remember where. There has been a requirement in place for many years that prevents commercials from being louder that movies. The problem is that movies only use that range of loudness for affects like explosions where commercials use it constantly making them appear much louder.

I have always heard of the problem and I have experienced it every now and then but now I am experiencing it every day. I have also heard about the coming regulation so maybe this is the advertisers last ditch effort to get their commercials heard before the reg kicks in.

it caught your attention, right? That's what the advertisers want, so get used to it.... It is pretty annoying though lol

Thing is it's not necessarily your service provider. I noticed it a lot with Bright House, occasionally with MediaCom, and I can't remember one with DirecTV. Those that I remember were on the local channels, with regional commercials, a local auto dealer, or lumber store or something. Your provider is just basically forwarding the channel.
If the commercials are on local stations, try contacting that station. Chances are you'll still get the run around, but at least you'll get to talk to someone.

Don't hold your breath, the bill was introduced in June 08, the last action was June 09 Bill Even though they say it is a very popular bill.
