Free fall CO2 remover

Quite some time ago I heard that free falling water is one of the best ways to get CO2 out of water and O2 in. So I'm thinking of using a 3" PVC pipe 7' long standing on end with water spraying into the top and a air blower forcing fresh air in from the bottom. Has anyone seen this kind of set up before and does it perform well?

wow, that sound pretty envolved. best ways to have good gas exchange is a skimmer and good surface agitation.
