hi My name is marvin and I live in nicaragua where this very cool hoby is not very popular(very expencive) let me tell you the story how a betta splendents(fighting fish) and a clown fish (ocellaris) became good friends! my first saltwater acuarium was a 10 gallon tank with two clown fish, they were to form a couple, next to this tank I kept one solitary betta(I like them very much) he always seemed to what how the two clowns play together, for some weird reazon one of the clown died one morning! after a few days the solitary clown looked very lonly, I decided his betta friend should join him in his acuarium, but the tank was too salty for him (I use salt bath on him before and he did just fine) so in a month time I lowered the SG of the saltwater to 1.08 and I wan´t going to go much lower, and guess what? my betta took it like a champ, they lived happly(in fish terms) for months untill the first hurricane hit FLORIDA where I used to live back in 2005, we where without power and gassoline for about a week,(realy bad) so my betta ended up all alone once more!!
I am back in nicaragua and I want to get back to the hoby but is way too expencive, but some day when am old and with lots of money to spare.........
let me tell you this clown fishes are ROCK strong..

Welcome to the boards! The clown fish would not have done well in that low of salinity long term, even without the storm. Saltwater fish need to be kept in saltwater, not "mildly" salt water. An SG of at least 1.019 is best for fish only. Feel free to ask any qustions that you may have
