The LFS do it because it is just a quick way to get rid of ich, but IMO it is not effective and very stessful on the fish. FW dips are worse than the ich IMO, I've tried it twice and both times resulting in the fish dieing the next day.

I wouldn't try that, that is pretty much a last resort type of thing...you may want to start a tank medication with Maracyn 2...just my 2 cents!:)

okay, i've tried before too and resulted in dead fishes.. i did it with a Rusty angel and a dwarf lion fish... i will be setting up my hospital tank and treat with copper... is there any advice you guys might have in setting up the hospital tank?
i was thinking of doing a 10 gallon since that's the only one i have at home... i'm also thinking of getting some water (about 5 gal) from my 29 reef and add some freshly mixed saltwater.. will this be okay... i need to treat him ASAP and i hate seeing white stuff on him.. how long should i keep him in there?

Look for a thread started by Tang Man Montreal called something like," Beth, need help setting up QT" Its pretty comprehensive. Its located in disease and treatment. Good Luck.

I had to do it years ago, but haven't had to do it recently. One of the things that you need to make sure of it you are even going to attempt it is that the PH and temperature of the water matches that of the saltwater tank that the fish was in. If it works at all, it will only get rid of visible developed parasites on the fish. It won't eliminate the problem in the tank itself.
The LFS in this area that I deal with only recommend it if the parasites are in an advanced state that will weaken the fish before any other treatment has a chance to work.
