fresh water dip to fight ick?

Quick question. About a month ago I was trying to fight ick on my juvi clown trigger. I did the fresh water (same temp, same ph) dip, and I noticed that it actually looked worse right after he was dipped. I was just wondering if thats because of them popping or something. Anyways, I found this miricle stuff (Ick X-tinguisher) and hes alive and well today. But just wondering in case it happens again (please no!!) What do u guys think about dipping, and how should the fish look imediatly afterwards?

From what I've heard fw dipping is the safest way as it doesnt add chemicals or medicine to the tank. But how long was your trigger in the water for?

the first time i did it, he was only in there for 1 min. Then I got brave and the next day I did it for 2 min. I couldnt leave him in there any longer, i felt bad for the lil guy! But he is doing quite fine now. But I just not sure if dipping is effective, because like I said, imediatly after, it looked much worse.

Both Terry and I agree, I believe, that for ICK, Hyposalinity is the way to go. No dips for ick, pleaz

You can do a search for the word but in a nut shell it is lowering the salt in the tank to starve the parisites.
It works I had to do it notto long ago.

OK, how do you do that? (reduce the salinity) And if you do, what would it do to the other inhabitants of the tank? corals? anemones? shrimp?
And I thought a fresh water dip meant "fresh" water. As in no salt, as in 7.0 pH, as in hyposalinity. Is that not what a freshwater dip is?
I have been doing fresh water dips when ever I see ick, and it works like a champ, a few seconds, and when I put the fish back in the main tank, I always see signaficantly less ick, and what is left dies in a few hours. This has worked for my Yellow Tang, Coral Beauty, Purple tang, Clown Tang, Maroon Clown, and my Tomato clown. The only thing I put in my "fresh" water (RO water) is some Novaqua to help rebuild the slime coat, and then I put some novaqua in the main tank as well specifically because it DOSEN"T hurt the rest of the inhabitants. Have I got this all wrong?
