This weekend i change from a glass top to a half eggcrate and half open and added some t-5 light fixtures...anyways i have notice that iam doing more FW top off everyday. Is this normal? should i put the glass on the open side?
If i put the glass back on will light penatrate.

If you leave the glass top on it will be harder for the water and air gas exchange. My suggestion would be to keep the eggcrate and just keep topping off.

if you let too much evaporate, the salinity will raise. what size is your tank?

I would highly recommend an auto top off. I have a JBJ works great costs about 50 bucks, I use a 2.5 gallon for RO storage but you can use a 5g bucket or whatever you can fit.

When water evaporates it is the fresh water that is evaporating. So as X said your salinity will rise because there is the same amount of salt but less water. Top off with fresh RO water.
If your old lights were pc's then the t5s are burning brighter (hotter) so that could explain the higher evaporation rate.
