freshwater bath

how effective is a freshwater bath? i got a clown a few days ago, and i noticed today some white spots. right now im treating him in a small container with a product called nox-ich. it consists of malchite green, and sodium chloride. earlier i fed some food soaked in garlic. im willing too try to anyting. i have a extra tank, with heater, but no filter. any suggetsion or commetns on the FW bath.
i may try hyposalinity, but with no filter, oculd i just use a powerhead instead, and do plenty of water changes?

Its not effective at all as a treatment by itself. Some hobbyists will use a FW dip to relieve a heavily infested fish, but then, still it is necessary to followup with effective treatment--copper or hyposalinity.

i dont believe in freshwater dips helping ich .. just my opinion
