Freshwater baths

I just want to know the proper way to conduct a freshwater bath on fish. I have a sick one that may not make it. Do you use complete freshwater or water with a little bit of salinity. Also what temp should I do it in, and how long should I keep the fish in there. Any info will be greatly appreciated. THNX.

From what I've read, a FW dip is done for about 3 minutes. If the fish becomes immediately stressed out, take it out.
Many people suggested just filling a bowl with FW (no salt). Prior to dipping the fish in, you make sure the water is normal tank temperature (72 to 78) and run a small pump so the water is thoroughly oxygenated.

I usually give all my fish a freshwater bath before putting them in my display tank. The temp of the freshwater has to match the tank the fish is staying in along with the ph. Make sure you put some sort of water conditioner in the water. Hook up a small pump to oxygenate the water. You can also add a small amount saltwater from the tank into the freshwater to help reduce the shock. If your fish is sick it should stay in there at least 5 minutes if possible. If it starts looking like its going to die, or stessing out to bad take him out. Some fish can stay in about 20 to 30 minutes. Remember though if you are returning him to the same tank you still have the problem of your tank being infected. This will just give the fish some relief. A hospital tank works great.
