to do a freshwater dip for ich, should i use ro water with osmo-prep in it, or just regular tap water. and how long should the fish stay in the freshwater dip?

i tried to catch the fish earlier, and gave up for now. i have 2 cleaner shrimp and 1 blood red cleaner shrimp in the tank also. they've been there all along, so they are not likely to solve the problem either i suppose. somehow i need to catch them (atlantic blue tang and blue hippo) and get them back into QT and either get some parasite stop or maybe try the hyposalinity i suppose. the only problem with hyposalinity would be that i'd have to get my snails and cleaner shrimp out of the QT before trying that method. any word on effectiveness of parasite stop on treating ich?

so would you run copper in the QT or just go with the hyposalinity. if so, what levels of copper, and how fast. or what level of specific gravity, and over what time period to get it there?

My preference is always hyposalinity. The procedure is detailed in the FAQ Thread. Take a look and if you have more questions, please post back.

one more question. with hyposalinity, i have a boxer shrimp in QT tank. will lowering specific gravity to 1.009 kill the shrimp, snails, and hermit crabs?

The low level of salinity will hurt the inverts because they can not tolerate the osmotic pressure change. If you are going to do a hypo treatment, then you need to do it to the fish only. I would suggest to NOT do the treatment in the show tank. Do the treatment in the QT.

guess that will have to work. only thing is that since my boxer shrimp in the show tank was so reclusive that i bought another one to put in QT so i could actually see it once in a while. so now that i have 2 of them, i heard that they would fight to the death if put in the same tank.
does anyone know where i can get one of those containers that hang over the edge of the aquarium like they have at the LFS so i can isolate one of the boxer shrimp during the treatment?
