I have an ETSS reef devil deluxe and im really getting frustrated, i only have skimate on the neck of the skimmer. The foam just stays at the top, i have adjusted it countless times. I have it for 7 mos now. Does anybody have the same problems with this skimmer? Do i need to just change it? What is a good external skimmer that I can use? Hows the Aqua C EV 180, any reviews with this?

i have the EV 180. works nicely on my 150 reef. i set up an arizona iced T jug as a skimmate collector. i clean the neck and cup once a week.

I called their support and gave me some tips like removing some of the balls and cleaning the pump. So I cleaned the pump(it wasnt that bad) didnt took out any of the balls(they said the more balls in there like they suggest 12 which i have, the better) but when i took out the air injector port os the skimmer, it is so clogged with salt. so now its running, i can hear the sound of those balls mixing in the neck of the skimmer , ill wait some more coz of course i had my hand in the water, surface tension changed thus decreasing foam. he said the catalina isnt that good. usually last only less than a year. i told him, after the cleaning and nothing changed id proly have the mag 7.

so i changed the catalina pump to a mag7 3 days ago, i can tell the flow/output is better but the foam still stays at the neck of the skimmer, will the skimmer break in again after changing pump? another question...when i first used the skimmer, my filter media in the drain is just a regular foam, that time i was having good skimate but i changed the foam to a fine filter pad, then thats the time the skimate became less and less but the filter pad that i placed always looked nasty after a couple of days so i regularly change them, i do 25% water change EVERY other week,my tank is not heavily stocked, and im feeding very small amounts. Will these things have to do why im having problems with this skimmer? thank you guys for the reply

How old is the tank, size, how many fish you have, type of food your using, how often do you feed, what’s your chemistry of your water, how often do you do water changes, size of water change.
All these play a factor in how well a skimmer will do.
Can you change the water height in the reaction chamber? Can you close the water exit?
I have never used an etss skimmer so I don’t know what is wrong but will ask a few common questions about skimmers.
