OK so I just went to ***** and bought a clown and a watchman goby. I got home which is only 10 minutes away to find the goby dead in the bag. I read the recipt and it says no returns or refunds on saltwater fish. I am so frustrated over this. Its too late to call them , not even sure if it would do any good.

I wont even let the gf take the dog over there to get a bath let alone but SW fish from em. I refused to even buy my tank from there cause of their lack of knowledge and lame return policies. I hope you can get something out of it

That doesn't matter! You go in tomorrow with the dead fish and reciept, get the manager and tell him that it die in the bag and you want a refund. Then see what he has to say. $10 he will give you another fish or money back. If you have to play a higher card, mention your other pets and that you might have to find another pet store to meet your pet needs if you can't buy fish there. You like to one stop shop. If you have kids, don't say it directly to the manager but to the kids. (Most of us have other pets or you'll have to decide how far you want to take it) You don't know how many times I have gotten a refund just by asking. They want your business and they will refund you! My ***** doesn't have saltwater fish but refunds the freshwater for 2 weeks. If they don't refund, I wouldn't go back. I would make sure they know that before you leave.

That's why you don't buy fish from *****.
But in all seriousness, if the fish died before you even put it in the tank then you should take it back. Even if you only get store credit, use it on dog treats or something.

the ***** in my town makes you want to cry! They always have a stock of yellow tangs for sale that look like they were drug down the road. and completely covered in ICH! it is awful. my fellow reefers in this town dont buy anything there, and they still get a fish shipment in every Wednesday, a year or two ago i used to stop by on thursdays to see what they had and you could always count on seing at least 5 dead fish.

Did you check the goby before it went into the bag?
Fish usually don't expire that fast unless there's already something going on.
How long did you watch it in the tank? Did you see it eat?

I would never buy from *****. The majority of fish at my local ***** are covered in ich. I actually stopped a couple from buying a yellow tang there a few months ago. Told them to go to the lfs down the street.

same with the ***** where i live. All fish covered in Ich and I actually prevented a few purchases by uninformed people by proclaiming quite loudly in the fish section that I was modified the fish all had ich and they wouldnt last a week if they were purchased. It may have pissed the sales associate off but who cares what they think, its all about the hobbyist, not their sales....

Big box store of death , stay away they should noy be allowed to sell s/w or f/w not to mention overpriced supplies ,

I guess I will share my experience from DeathCo.
The last visit to ***** went like this. I walk in and look at their selection of fish for my ( what once was) newly cycled 75 reef. I go to the back fish selection and to my surprise see a Zanclus cornutus or Long fin banner fish. I was watching his behavior for a couple minutes when an associate came up to me and asked if she could help me. I told her I am just looking for today but was curious about the Zanclus cornutus. I asked her how long she had it, she said well since we actually just opened the store last week we have only had it about 5-6 days. I was shocked and asked her how long the kept them in quarantine, as well as how long the tanks have been cycling. She said proudly says that she floats all of her marine life in the tanks for over an hour. She then told me that the tanks don't need to cycle because she used some kick start bio filtration that cycles the tanks within a couple hours.
She then asked what tank it was going in and I told her that I have a 75 that finished cycling about a week ago. She said thats great but would have rather seen me buy a damsel to cycle my tank, with the added bonus of not spending 35 dollars for a fish that would have a higher chance of death.
I was kinda blown away. I kinda got frustrated (my wife says my face turned really red) with the lady and jumped her (in a sense) "Why would you cycle a tank with a fish, when you could do it with a piece of shrimp, and not torture an animal to death with rising levels of ammonia, trates and trites?!" She didn't say anything other than "Well I cycled my 450gallon tank with about a dozen of them"
Now I know most people have harsh feelings for damsels, but a fish is a fish is a fish, and that just really upset me, because I knew that most likely all of them had died. I told her I would be back in tomorrow to check on him and I never went back for it.
Yeah, so. long story short. I hate *****, BUT, will do the occasional rescue if need be.

I work at ***** and let me tell you I send 80% of the people I talk to to my fav, lfs, but I have to admit yea sometimes the fish suck, but on the other hand sometimes they are real gems, it all depends on who they put back there. The so called "fish-specialist" at the one where I work, has one 5 1/2 gallon tank, does not know anything about freshwater let alone saltwater, and thinks his claim to fame is that his mother, ( who lives 1,000 mi away) is a marine biologist, and it really makes me mad when he or someone else tries to give someone advice when he doesn't even know what he is talking about, just a example of his stupidity, the first couple of days I was working with him, I decided to test his superior fish intelect, I said to him as I was clean a tank, wow I can't believe this hippo is still alive, and he looked at me in all seriousness and said, we do not have any hippo tangs, we have regal tangs, hippo tangs do not have yellow tails. Well I looked at him and fell on the ground laughing. It just goes to show you that you got to test the people first, and as an employee, the fish return in your circumstance, really has to do with what manager is working. oh he also feeds the tangs nothing but bloodworms WTF

Don't buy fish at *****. There is nothing that you can do about "company policy". They don't guarantee their stock. Support local fish stores with knowledgeable staff. They actually care if you are satisfied or not. Buy from here. They care if you are satisfied or not. Don't support these stores that go by corporate policy. Have you ever walked into one of these stores the day, or even the day after, the fish come in? It is nothing but tanks of death. Some stores may be better at hiding it than others.
