well, i dont htink it is flow that is causeing red slime, i think it is my lighting, it has been off for 2 days and the slime is gone... is it because of this light?

no. but it probably didnt help it has a lot of red spectrum. light doesnt cause algae it just helps it grow.

you're better off with about 5100k in the fuge, but from what i can gather its not a bad thing to have red slime in the fuge, it just means more nutrients getting taken out. as long as its not in your tank don't worry about it.

well everyone told me it was bad that it was in teh fuge. i didnt think it was because i thought thats where the algea is supposed to grow instead of in your dt. but the problem is, when i turn this light on, it really messes up the cheato. it doesnt grow at all and it turns redish and i get slime all over the walls of the fuge...

stop using the light.
go to lightbulbsdirect dot com, look at the power compact flourescents, get the 1P301651 5100k. it's a PC spiral bulb with a floodlight casing made by TCP, for 10.76. it's making my chaeto grow like mad. put it in any normal clip on light fixture from a hardware store (i had to break off the plastic shroud from my clip on desk lamp)

I really dont think the red slime is a direct result of the lighting, I use the bulbs from the site listed above and I also recommend them!
The light is just helping feed the slime. cut the lights to fuge for a couple of days and try to figure out what is causing the red slime, excess nutrients.
Make sure you not overfeeding, i never feed my fish more than what they can eat in 2 minutes without it hitting the sand, i also spot feed my fish to help reduce what hits the sand, i mix the food...givethem some...wait till its gone...give them some more...you get the idea.
do you have any of the nasty algae in your display tank?

i far from over feed. i dont pour in any water i use to disolve the food. there is absolutley no algea in my tank, just in my fuge. directly under the light. and only under the light. it only comes when i leave the light on. i didnt remove any of the slime by myself. i turned the light off for a day or so, took a look yesterday, and its all gone. if i turn it on for a day, it will come back. it was all over the walls of the fuge but it once the lights were out, it all went away. so im convinced that it isnt lack of flow, or nutrients, but it is because of this light.

its not the light. it will grow under any light. it just grows faster under redder spectrum light.
If you keep asking some one will eventually say its the light, you'll feel better you'll put a different bulb on, then it'll come back and you'll be frusterated again. red slime is one of those things no one has perfected getting rid of yet. no matter what they say. its all about having the right conditions. no one factor is going to do it. its about several things, lighting, flow, and nutrients. with out nutrients it cant grow. maybe you need to retghink your filtration because if your not overfeeding your filtration isnt getting rid of all the excess nutrients so the slime has something to consume.

Nuisance algae is caused by excess nutrients in the water,
like when my anemone tried swimming into my stream pump and got shred into the tank, you need to try and figure out what is causing the excess nutrients in the water.
the light is just probably helping feed it, try a new light and check your water params
i check for
nitrates
alk
ph
phos
ca
mag
unless your tank is new or something happened you shouldnt need to test for ammonia or nitrites.

just leave the slime in the fuge. it is only taking out extra nutrients. as long as its not in your display tank you're fine. I use that light and i have great chaeto growth, i have some hair algae growth, and a tiny amount of slime growth. as long as none is in my DT i'm perfectly happy.

Drop a small power head in your fuge and direct it torwards the spots where the stuff is growing, the stuff usually grows in low flow areas.
