Fuge lighting question

I have a 30gal DT and 10gal fuge currently stocked with a DSB and a handful of cheato. The guy at the fish store told me to turn the refugium lights on at night but the problem is i have my tank set up in my room and the light is rather annoying.I though about building a cabinet around the fuge to reduce the stray light.
So my question is can i save my self the hassle of making a cabinet by keeping the DT and fuge lights on during the day.

I'm sure you could do it that way. I guess the reason for reverse lighting is you'll get less of a PH drop at night because the fuge lighting is on. And something to do with the cheato releasing oxygen when the lights are off during the day. But people without refugiums don't have that luxery to control PH that way so I'm sure if absolutely necessary, you could have them on during the day as well.
