fuge plumbing help!

setup a new fuge this weekend and it is driving me nuts! The setup has a minijet 606 on its lowest setting (84gph) pumping water up from my sump to the fuge. It drains through a 1" bulkhead in the side of the 10gallon fuge. In experimenting for a consistant level and minimum sound i put a reducer to 1/2" and an elbow on the inside of the tank. The level was changing alot where it would build up to a certain height then all rush down and repeat over and over. THis was messing up the skimmer and causing concern of overflow in the fuge.
I read here that drilling a hole in the drain pipe above the sump water level will help this. I did and the levels are steady now.
However the noise is cyclical as air gets sucked in the overflow and shoots out the small hole i drilled.
See attached pic of the setup
How can i quiet this down?

Try turning the elbow down instead of sideways, that way you can never get that air sucking noise. Model it after a dusro standpipe intake.

actually tried that and with it down the water level would go down to the bottom of it and it would suck air there. A valve on the pump seems to have solved it by reducing the flow to the fuge.

If it goes down to the bottom and sucks air you need to drill a small hole in the top to alolow some air in to break the suction. Drill as small as possible and keep getting a little bigger untilit no longer goes down.

lol lol sorry to laugh but it looked like my old thing i did turn the elbow down and drill a small hole in the top and put a air line in it and if it still makes noise it will come from the hose put a small peice of filter sponge on the ether end to sofen the noise
