if you have calupera algae in there,yes.Otherwise you can do reverse lighting with tank lights.

reverse lighting? please elaborate what this is.
Basically running the fuge lights opposite of your regular lights. So when your daylight or actinic bulbs turn off, the fuge light would come on. Also helps to stabilize the ph at night, when it generally drops down.

yup that's whats a lot of people do. and it really does help with PH after the lights go out on the display tank.
