i think your lens just does not have a short enough focal point. I don't know much about cameras but think that is what the problem might be. I am sure someone else will chime in

I have a Fuju FinePix (not sure what model exactly) and to get good pics I do the following:
Turn off the flash
Put the camera in Macro mode
Use a tripod
Use the highest resolution

A tripod looks to solve your problem. as for image size, its hard to tell on a monitor. As a rule,Whatever your focal length is, your shutter speed should double it, for handheld, but if you don't have enough light your picture will be underexposed, or look really dark. the only problem with shooting with a slow shutter speed, your fish may blur if they are moving, your color will be really good though. Or you can fix it in photoshop if your image is in focus.

One thing I have found with using high resolutions is that if you plan on posting the pics here you have to downsize the picture tremendously and the picture quality suffers. I use vga resolution and I only have to downsize a couple of notch.

If you shoot in the highest resolution just crop the subject you want out of the picture them downsize. This keeps the pic quality high.

I too have a Fuji camera, and I have found that if you hold the button down half way until it beeps, then it focuses better, and once you hear that beep, you can press the button all the way down to take the shot... This method has solved all my quality issues!!!
Good luck!

The camera might not be able to figure out what it is supposed to focus. If you tried the tripod and that did not help. Start playing with some of the picture setting to see if it will help. Also try to pick something in the tank with a lot of contrast from its surroundings and photograph that. I am not familiar with the model Fuji you have but I also have a Fuji and it takes nice pics of the tank but I have to use a tripod to get real sharp pics.

I just went to Fuji's wesite and by no means is the A210 a crappy camera. It is not the most sophisticated but it is a nice camera. It does say if you are trying to take pictures of something that is less than 2 feet away it has to be in Macro mode. I did not read to see if you tried this. Can you post a pic taken in Macro with the camera on a tripod.
