I've posted this pic before but it gives a good idea of the size. I think my eel is probably full grown or close to it.

I love any eels. The only problem with the eel and shark is that the shark has bitten the eel a couple times while feeding. Doesn't seem to bother my eel at all.

Thanks. One more thing I forgot to mention... my sfe does not compete with the other aggressive eaters very well so I spot feed him with tongs.

i had a 25" one and was about 2 inch by 2inch around, he was huge..if you want a killer size one just keep on feeding him lots. i fed mine silversides, clams and he would even eat feederfish on occasion. he was in a 60 hex all by himself.

Had one in a 77g tank all by itself for about 3 years. Went from about 6" and pencil thickness to easily 1/2 the length of the tank and THICK. Beautiful eels, and even at that size it wasnt aggressive, although it ate all the hermits and emerald crabs I put in the tank, and knocked snails off the rocks and glass to their doom.
Oh and make sure to feed a varied diet and soak in vitamins, if not they will turn grey/white as they get into adulthood and arnt NEARLY as attractive. I fed mine about 10 different seafoods, always soaked in vitamins and it kept its golden color for many years.

Mine is still a baby but he's very mellow unless its dinner time. He mostly hangs out under his rock with his head hanging out . at dinner time he swims around kinda crazy.

My SFE is about 16 inches now and I'm still stupid enough to feed him with my hands. One of these days he is going to take a nip out of me.
The tong idea never occured to me. He's been hand fed since he was a babe according to the former owner (he had him for a couple of years).
Are you soaking his frozen foods in Garlic Extreme? I know there is some controversy about feeding them live goldfish but are you feeding yours live goldfish too?

No, I don't soak the food or feed mine goldfish. Mine eats silversides, krill and squid.

I soak mine in garlic as I've read it does well for the immune system for eels just like is does for fish. Of course, it seems like this eel I have has lived through everything you can imagine. Maybe I'm wasting my garlic and time, but he seems to like the food so I'll continue if it means he won't eat my snails, crabs and other critters.

I have been soaking squid in garlic for mine . It seams to get the fish excited about the food . And well I hear its got good things for the immune system so I guess it doesn't hurt . My niger trigger attacks the soaked shrimp like a mad man . And No I don't feed any live fish . fresh water feeders are bad for saltwater fish .

I have a frend who would trade hers. It's big! It has to be 18" long if not longer and it loves frozen shrimp. All this thing does is stick it's head out from under a rock and eats. I will tell her about any offers.. She told me yesterday she was going to take it to a LFS for trade. She is in Vidalia Ga. I think I would ship it if I had to. gordruls@bellsouth.net
