Should fully curred live rock have a little smell or no smell at all?

it should just smell like salt. no dead carcass smells

It should not smell. You should be indifferent to the smell if it is cured. My best suggestion, throw your rock in a bucket and let it sit. If the ammonia or nitrite spike really high within 24 hours, it is not fully cured.

And unless ur getting it from a good friend you trust, assume its not fully cured. that way no one gets surprised.
