funny things books say about marine aquariums

I have an older saltwater book that sais with exclamation that you should never use sand as a substrate because it will clog you UGF. The funny thing is that it only mentions the UGF as filtration for a marine aquarium.
It also says that the best substrates are crushed coral, and oyster shells :notsure:

yeah i dont think i would be getting my info from that book as we all know the saltwater hobby is constantly changing and what was true yesterday isnt neccassarily true today

I started my 90 with cc and an UGF, all because the dealer said, and I quote, "You have to have a UGF is you are going to have a saltwater tank."
Incidentally, he was an older guy. Maybe that can be considered old school.
