Im about to make an upgrade to a 65 from a 29. Currently all my live stock, except for my one chromis and my mated pair of shrimp, are in a diiferent tank.
There has been some question on whether or not I have zoa eating snails and other not so good stuff.
I was wondering, ALONG WITH a good scrubbing on the rock, if a fresh water dip would do any good?
if so, for how long?
thanks

A fresh dip will kill the bacteria. Instead do a supersalinity dip (if you make your own water) of 1.030 or higher and all of the critters in the rock will come out on their own. Then you can pick what you want to keep without "killing" the rock.

If you want to kill the inhibitants but not the bacteria give it a 10-15min dip in lugols or coral dip (seachem reef dip, revive, pro coral cure ect). you will kill the hitch hikers (and trust me they'll be more than you ever knew were there). but the rock, bacteria and any corals will be perfectly unharmed. if you want to try the salinity method you'll need higher than 1.030. the red sea avg specific gravity is 1.028-1.035. you need to go 1.040 or higher unless your running low sp gravity.

I am not really sure if that’s true. We are talking about short-term dip 5 to 10 min not an over night soak. I would be interested to see any published info to the contrary

I have seen people frag their coral for extended periods of time out of water, I would think fresh water would be less stressful
