Sorry to hear about your loss!!!
Did you cycle the tank first? To say that a product can reduce all levels of all of these is just, well, silly.
Bacteria need ammonia to grow...other bacteria need nitrite...without those beneficial bacterial colonies, the levels of ammonia and nitrite will *always* be out of whack. Basic, non-tech info:
Fish poop=ammonia. Ammonia is converted to nitrite by bacteria. Different bacteria convert nitrite to nitrate. Nitrate=plant & algae food.
You should increase the levels of those good bacteria in the tank by actually adding ammonia to the tank...without fish of course, because that will only hurt them. Add pure household ammonia, fish food, or most people's favorite - a dead cocktail shrimp. This will start the cycle. When the cycle is complete (no ammonia, no nitrite, no or little nitrate) then you can add fish. The levels will stay that way in a properly cycled tank. Adding plants or algaes (preferably to the sump or refugium rather than display tank) will keep nitrate levels in check.
I hope everything goes better for you the next time around!

Looked at their site...the part that caught my eye was this.
To control the toxic organic nitrogenous compounds of ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate and other toxic organics that build up in aquariums and ponds from the excretion of body wastes by fishes, invertebrates, bacteria and other aquatic organisms start with a Standard Dose (see definition above). This Standard Dose will remove (detoxify) at least 1.2 mg/L (= approx.1,2 ppm) of all ammonia compounds, at least 2.0 mg/L (=2.0 ppm) of nitrites, and at least 13 mg/L (=13 ppm) of nitrates. Use additional standard doses to remove greater amounts of these organic compounds. The removal of these compounds will happen within five minutes, or slightly longer for ammonia at a higher pH above 7.5. It is important to understand that the amounts of organic compounds removed may vary with differing water conditions. The amounts indicated above are the minimums that AmQuel will detoxify, and what is removed may be up to several times higher. Use accurate test kits to check how much of each compound is being removed when using multiple doses (see the section in KPD-80 on "Water Quality Test Kits" under "Problems When Using Water Conditioners...").
So basically here it is saying that it will remove a certain amount of ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. However, cycling generally creates far more of these than it says the product will remove.
Sorry for your loss.

I read your previous post and so sorry for your loss. When I used to use tap water, it used ammo-lock, never had a loss. Freshwater or saltwater, but algea constantly (that is another story). This time around try not to use tap water, see if your LFS will give or sell you their water, in time it will replace the tap water. Mine has all the faucets (sp) hooked up to their RO/DI unit, so it is filtered out. Make sure your LFS does this first though. Also, I have bought distilled water from walmart and it was fine in the tank (great value brand, I believe). Just a few ideas to ponder if you cant get an RO/DI unit right now. Good luck, dont give up. :)
