Galaxea Coral

Hi everyone! Well, I bought a Galaxea coral for my nano. I heard some bad things about it though. I was wondering if it's sweeper tentecles could affect fish? I have a Blue Tang in there( He will be moved when bigger) would he be affected? Also, I have a cleaner shrimp in there too. Could he also be affected by it? Thanks in advance.

I have one as well, the sweeper tentacles can go farther than you think, although fish and shrimp etc will probably not be affected by them. They are too fast. I've seen my Blue Hippo brush against it without ill effects. I did however have a colony of Xenia that was too close and not knowing what was happening eventually killed the Xenia. Unfortunately the Xenia couldn't get away.

Most fish can tolerate a sting from a coral every now and then but Im sure they dont like it. If the fish is in the tank for too long and is getting stung too often because the tank is too small and the fish has to constantly watch out or starts to just stay in one place then it will cause a lot of stress on the fish. A stressed out Tang is not a pretty sight.

i have one in my 24g nano that about 2x3 inches and doesn't bother anything really. My clown has dark spots on him, but I don't think its from the coral, I think hes just getting darker.

Oh, I missed the part about the shrimp. My Scarlets used to dance on my anemones and corals
( actually looking to steal food ) I think the shrimp will be OK.

Ok thanks. I was worried about the shrimp because he usually walks all over my corals and since the galaxea had stinging cells I thought he would be affected. I am not really worried now about the Tang because he stays on the other side of the tank where the galaxea is not. Thanks again.

the only thing i have to say is that ive noticed that their skeletons are very fragile and break easily, so handle them carefully. if you have moonlights in your tank, you can see how far they go out and then judge how close you can place other things.
