I was wondering if the ballasts in garages would work for aquariums............I could buy vho bulbs...........would this work?
Garage light ballast ok for aquarium?

Possably a magnetic ballast, not the best, runs hot and may shorten the life of the bulbs. You really need one that is rated for VHO bulbs and the wattage. I would suggest an electronic ballast for the best life of your bulbs. I have heard of people using tar ballasts and everything under the sun to power their bulbs.

Logic says yes due to heat. I am no expert at the ballast thing, however, any Ice cap or electronic ballast that I have used or touched is cool to the touch, no heat problem at all.
